Experts call for direct U.S.-North Korea talks
According to a group of U.S. experts, the United States should conduct direct talks with North Korea, alongside the current six-nation negotiations. The group of 10 former senior U.S. officials, including Ploughshares grantee Robert Carlin, provides recommendations for the U.S. – South Korean relationship in its recent publication, “New Beginnings”. The policy brief suggests that “while six-party talks should be continued, the United States should consider bilateral talks with North Korea to explore whether a new mix of inducements and pressures might achieve U.S. and South Korean goals.”
