Applying for a Grant
Ploughshares Fund supports organizations and individuals working to build a safe, secure, nuclear weapons-free world. Please read our Funding Priorities to determine if your project fits into our areas of interest.
Ploughshares Fund is unique in that we place very few restrictions on our grantmaking:
- There are no geographical limitations on our grants.
- We are able to fund direct lobbying programs.
- We make grants to individuals.
- We encourage women and people from diverse communities to apply.
Please note that we do not fund the production of films, videos, books, art projects, provide scholarships or the research and writing of academic dissertations.
If you are still uncertain if your project will meet our areas of interest, please submit this form with a brief description of your project. We will let you know if a full proposal is appropriate.
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
Ploughshares Fund is committed to ensuring our grantmaking contributes to a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive nuclear field. As part of this commitment, we have updated all of our applications for funding to include a new set of questions related to gender inclusion based on the values that underpin our work. You can find our full values statement related to gender inclusivity here. Any information provided will be maintained in a strictly confidential manner and is voluntary to provide. Choosing not to answer these questions will not negatively affect the outcome of your application for funding. We are gathering this information to gain a better understanding of the projects we fund. Instructions related to the specific questions can be found within our applications. Please also review our FAQ at the bottom of this page for additional information.
How to Apply
Ploughshares Fund has switched to an online applications portal. If you are a first time applicant, you will need to take our eligibility quiz before you can apply.
When to Apply
The next funding cycle will be for Fall 2019. Applications are being accepted between July 15, 2019 until August 15, 2019. If you plan on applying for a grant on the Fall cycle, please register your Portal account as soon as possible.
In between the three annual board meetings, Ploughshares Fund staff have the ability to make discretionary grants up to $25,000. These discretionary grants are used to support time urgent projects related to our highest priority funding areas, and projects must have a high likelihood of achieving short-term policy impact. To inquire about our discretionary grant process and to determine if your project is within our funding priorities, please submit this form with a brief description of your project.
