Senator Casey Urges Senate to Take Action on Nuclear Security

Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) took to the Senate floor yesterday to encourage his Senate colleagues to support the Obama Administration's nuclear security efforts.  Casey emphasized the need to reduce the threat of nuclear terrorism by supporting arms control and nuclear security treaties and legislation, saying "We have a solemn responsibility to do what we can to combat the threat of nuclear weapons. The Obama Administration has set forth a vision which puts American security first in pursuit of a world where terrorists cannot acquire weapons of mass destruction. The Senate also has an important leadership role to play and our number one obligation should be to protect the American people."

Prior to Senator Casey's floor statement, Ploughshares and our grantees, including the Arms Control Association, the Center for Arms Control and Nonproliferation and the National Security Network, encouraged the senator to speak out on this important issue and provided his staff with additional information about the nuclear security agenda.
