Assistant Secretary of State Rose Gottemoeller's Opening Statement at the NPT Prepcom

Assistant Secretary of State Rose Gottemoeller delivered opening remarks on behalf of the United States at the Third Session of the Preparatory Committee for 2010 Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty Review Conference.  Gottemoeller reaffirmed U.S. commitments to negotiating a START follow-on and a global verifiable fissile material cut-off treaty, in addition to pursuing ratification of the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty.  Gottemoeller also stated that "Universal adherence to the NPT itself--including by India, Israel, Pakistan, and North Korea--also remains a fundamental objective of the United States."  This speech sets the stage for enhanced cooperation between NPT parties in the pursuit of a bold agenda for the 2010 Review Conference.
