Naila Bolus honored with "Unsung Hero" award
On December 3, 2009, Ploughshares Fund’s Executive Director Naila Bolus was honored with the Unsung Hero Award at the 20th Anniversary Celebration of the Center for Nonproliferation Studies. Deputy Director of CNS, Dr. Patricia Lewis remarked, “Naila is the salt of the earth. She is rooted in the values of this great country and has been a bedrock of support and encouragement for the world of nonproliferation and disarmament; just the type of person who should be in our foundations.”
After describing the Naila's accomplishments in advancing women’s leadership in the international peace and security field, lobbying Congress for human services, environmental protection and peace, and leading 20/20 Vision as co-director, Lewis said Naila is now a “leading light” at WIIS – Women In International Security (WIIS).
Lewis acknowledged "the great, late Sally Lilienthal," the founder of Ploughshares Fund, as a source of inspiration for Naila. "Sally was renowned for her impatience!" said Lewis. "It was that impatience that taught Naila great lessons about focus, strategy, determination, and risk."
