U.S. may soon make overture to Iran leader

The Obama administration is considering a major diplomatic overture to Iran, in the form of a letter to Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, before the country's presidential elections in June. While some warn against the gesture, fearing it may improve the chances of President Ahmadinejad, Trita Parsi of the National Iranian American Council emphasized “sending the message they are engaging a government and not an individual,” adding that writing to Khamenei, who will retain his powerful position regardless of the outcome, makes sense.
