Letter to Energy Secretary Chu

On January 30, 2009, a group of 13 organizations that includes the Arms Control Association, the Federation of American Scientists, 20/20 Vision, and Women’s Action for New Directions wrote a letter to Secretary of Energy Dr. Steven Chu, urging him and the Obama administration to "stop development of new nuclear weapons and plutonium 'pits' including research or development work on new warhead designs and warhead modifications that would create new military capabilities." 

The letter points out that current nuclear stockpiles have been certified as safe and reliable, and they will remain so for decades under the Stockpile Stewardship Program.
