Kansas weapons plant project faces lawsuit

Bannister Federal Complex, a nuclear-weapon components plant in Kansas, is scheduled to be replaced under a joint venture development plan. However, a coalition including Ploughshares grantees Natural Resources Defense Council, Nuclear Watch New Mexico and others has filed a federal lawsuit, claiming the plan to replace the facility neglects the hundreds of millions of dollars it would cost to clean up the old Bannister plant. Jay Coghlan of Nuclear Watch New Mexico said the litigants are asking for a ruling from the judge in May to stop the project.
