Ploughshares Fund celebrates nomination of Amb. Bonnie Jenkins to US Department of State

Amb. Jenkins leaves Ploughshares Fund Board of Directors to pursue role of Under Secretary for Arms Control and International Security Affairs

WASHINGTON, DC – Ploughshares Fund celebrates the nomination of Ambassador Bonnie Jenkins to the position of Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security. Amb. Jenkins, who joined the Ploughshares Fund Board of Directors in 2020, will step down from the board to pursue the exciting new opportunity of advancing the United States’ efforts to revitalize arms control efforts and work cooperatively to reduce nuclear, chemical, and biological risks.

While we are sad to see Amb. Jenkins depart from the Ploughshares Fund Board of Directors we are confident that the State Department will greatly benefit from her leadership as the nation embarks on a new era of diplomacy.

An internationally recognized diplomacy leader, Amb. Jenkins brought depth of knowledge and experience to the global security foundation board.

“We will miss Amb. Jenkins’ deep understanding of both nuclear risks and how they are linked to other global issues,” said Ploughshares Fund Board Chair, Terry Gamble Boyer.

“Through our Women’s Initiative, we have had the honor to work with Amb. Jenkins in our joint efforts to create a more inclusive peace and security field that centers people, not weapons, at the heart of its policies,” said Ploughshares Fund President Dr. Emma Belcher. “We are thrilled she will be bringing this understanding to her work to reduce nuclear, biological, and chemical threats worldwide.”

Ploughshares Fund Board and staff wish Amb. Jenkins all the best in her new role.
