Ban Ki-moon Urges Activists to be "The Voice of Conscience"

"Our shared vision is within reach: a nuclear-free world," UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon told the audience at Riverside Church in New York yesterday. "On the eve of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty Review Conference beginning on Monday, we know the world is watching. Let us heed our call. Disarm now!"  Speaking at the "Nuclear-Free, Peaceful, Just and Sustainable World" conference organized by the Ploughshares-funded Peace Action, Ban reiterated his own commitment to a nuclear weapon-free world.  "Above all," he concluded, "continue to be the voice of conscience. We will rid the world of nuclear weapons. And when we do, it will be because of people like you. The world owes you its gratitude."
