Applying for a Grant

Ploughshares Fund supports organizations and individuals working to build a safe, secure, nuclear weapons-free world. Please read our Funding Priorities to determine if your project fits into our areas of interest.

Ploughshares Fund is unique in that we place very few restrictions on our grantmaking:

  • There are no geographical limitations on our grants
  • We are able to fund direct lobbying programs
  • We make grants to individuals.

Please note that we do not fund the production of films, videos, books, art projects or the research and writing of academic dissertations.

If you are still uncertain if your project will meet our areas of interest, please submit this form with a brief description of your project.  We will let you know if a full proposal is appropriate.

How to Apply

To apply for a grant you must first complete the online eligibility quiz, available during the next application period: February 15, 2017 – March 15, 2017. If you are eligible, the quiz will take you to an online application. Ploughshares Fund only accepts applications online. While you can save your application information and return to it at a later time, we recommend reviewing a pdf copy of our application questions before filling out the online version. If you are applying for a renewal grant, please make sure to include an intrim report with your proposal. Again, although you can save your application information and return to it at a later time we recommend reviewing a pdf copy of the interim report.

When to Apply

If you have any additional questions about the grant application process not addressed in the FAQs, please contact Program Associate, Cara Wagner at 415.668.2244.

In between the three annual board meetings, Ploughshares Fund staff have the ability to make discretionary grants up to $25,000. These discretionary grants are used to support time urgent projects related to our highest priority funding areas, and projects must have a high likelihood of achieving short-term policy impact. To submit a discretionary grant request, please submit this form with a brief description of your project.
