Stark, Colleagues Call for More Money for Dismantling Nuclear Weapons

In a letter to leaders on the House Appropriations Committee, Rep. Pete Stark (D-CA) and eight of his colleagues called for an increase in funding for programs to dismantle nuclear weapons, and opposed increases in funding for nuclear weapons facilities.

"Taxpayer money should not be spent to expand the capacity of the U.S. to produce more nuclear warheads each year," said Peace Action West Executive Director Jon Rainwater, a Ploughshares Fund grantee. "We applaud Rep. Stark and the other members of Congress who signed on to this letter for recognizing that nuclear weapons are a liability in today's world and for supporting dismantlement of the thousands of nuclear weapons we no longer use."
