The mushroom cloud that wasn't

In an article for Foreign Affairs, Michael Krepon of the Ploughshares-funded Stimson Center suggests the threat of WMD attacks “has been greatly exaggerated.” Although “these sorts of scary predictions have a basis in reality,” Krepon warns, “crying wolf too often can lead to complacency when action is needed most.”  Major attacks have been averted due to improved coordinated intelligence, and the U.S. government can continue to reduce nuclear dangers through “cooperative threat reduction, rather than spreading fear and inflating threats.”
