In the State of the Union Address [2], President Obama declared nuclear weapons the "greatest threat to the American people" and reiterated his commitment to follow in the footsteps of John F. Kennedy and Ronald Reagan to seek a world without these deadly weapons. Ploughshares Fund, working in concert with other members of the arms control community, highlighted the importance of President Obama's nuclear security strategy building a smart national security to address the threats we face: "Today’s security strategy must be one that allows our military to invest in the resources our troops need to fight today’s wars – not the Cold War – and that means nuclear reductions and preventing their proliferation. President Obama’s remarks in last night’s State of the Union are part of a comprehensive national security strategy to address this critical threat."
