President Obama Calls Nuclear Weapons the "Greatest Danger to the American People"

In the State of the Union Address, President Obama declared nuclear weapons the "greatest threat to the American people" and reiterated his commitment to follow in the footsteps of John F. Kennedy and Ronald Reagan to seek a world without these deadly weapons.  Ploughshares Fund, working in concert with other members of the arms control community, highlighted the importance of President Obama's nuclear security strategy building a smart national security to address the threats we face: "Today’s security strategy must be one that allows our military to invest in the resources our troops need to fight today’s wars – not the Cold War – and that means nuclear reductions and preventing their proliferation. President Obama’s remarks in last night’s State of the Union are part of a comprehensive national security strategy to address this critical threat."
