The Path Not Taken, The Way Still Open: Denuclearizing The Korean Peninsula And Northeast Asia

"We are at a new fork in the difficult path of negotiations on Korea," writes Peter Hayes, Director of Nautilus Institute for Security and Sustainable Development.  "But there are also more hopeful changes in the international climate and the leadership of the United States and Japan that open the way for a more comprehensive solution to the security issues and fears that have led to North Korea nuclear proliferation."  Hayes says that the time has come to consider new approaches to denuclearizing the Korean Peninsula and the wider Northeast Asia region, including the creation of a Korean Nuclear Weapons Free Zone (NWFZ).
