Iran remains on edge as election recount begins

In the wake of protests in Iran, Ploughshares grantees Trita Parsi of the National Iranian American Council and Karim Sadjadpour of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace appeared separately on PBS’s The News Hour.  Sadjadpour, who reported on elections from Iran in 2005, said, “I think this is really an unprecedented moment in the 30-year history of the Islamic regime. And the sense of rage and injustice you saw on the streets today in Tehran and throughout the country was really palpable.” Commenting on the partial recount, Parsi explained, “I don't think there's a lot of expectations on the recount. I think what is happening right now is that they're getting some time to be able to see if they can get a deal behind the doors.”
