Assistant to the President

Rebecca is the Assistant to the President of Ploughshares Fund, Joe Cirincione. Her responsibilities include support to Mr. Cirincione and administrative management of the Washington DC office.

Prior to joining Ploughshares Fund in September of 2011, she worked as a membership and development intern at the Federation of American Scientists. Rebecca graduated from the University of San Diego with a major in Political Science and minors in History and Theology. She was on the executive board of the Political Science honor society, Pi Sigma Alpha, a member of the History honor society, Phi Alpha Theta, and the President of the History club.

As tensions have risen in the face of North Korea’s heated rhetoric, the U.S. media has been running non-stop, and often inflammatory, coverage of every new development. Unfortunately, much of the coverage has been neither useful nor informative and cuts against the opinion of many North Korea experts by touting the DPRK as a direct threat to the United States. Most experts aren’t concerned with the prospect of a preemptive military strike from North Korea. We’ve seen this pattern of provocation before. Instead, experts worry that the situation could spiral out of control, spurring a real crisis on the Korean peninsula.

Early this morning, Joe Cirincione, president of Ploughshares Fund, delivered the keynote address at the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty Organization Preparatory Commission’s (CTBTO) Intensive Policy Course in Vienna, Austria. The CTBTO is working to bring into force the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty, a treaty that would ban all nuclear explosions globally.

Last week, a British-German delegation of the European Leadership Network (ELN) made the rounds in Washington.
