Analyzing the recently-released report [2]by the Congressional Strategic Posture Commission, Ivan Oelrich [3]and Hans M. Kristensen [4]of the Ploughshares-funded Federation of American Scientists [5]called the report, “a work of deeply disappointing failure of imagination.” They criticized the Commission for “surrendering to the nuclear problems of the world rather than recommending a proactive way forward out of the mess.” They added, “It would be ironic if the [upcoming] Pentagon’s Nuclear Posture Review ends up recommending bigger changes than the Commission. That shouldn’t be hard.”
