Wired Magazine [2]is out with its 2008 Smart List, "people with big ideas about how to fix the things that need fixing." Among the 15 are one Ploughshares Fund grantee -- nuclear terrorism expert Charles Ferguson [3]; one former grantee -- Peter Gleick [4], who demonstrates how water shortages can breed conflict; and a staffer at the Ploughshares-funded New America Foundation [5]. The Council on Foreign Relations [6]' Ferguson says that the U.S. government needs to get out ahead of a new laser technology for enriching uranium, and stop would-be proliferators seeking a shorter path to a nuclear weapon.
