The 2008 National Intelligence Estimate concluded that Iran halted its program to produce nuclear weapons in 2003.

Iran has continued to make progress in its nuclear and ballistic missile programs.  However, today Iran is more isolated, its regime more divided, and it is years away from a nuclear weapon.  Opportunities still exist to engage constructively with Iran, contain its programs, and prevent it from acquiring nuclear weapons.
