Karin von Hippel focuses on international security, post-conflict reconstruction and terrorism and transnational threats at the Center for Strategic and International Studies. She works with CSIS's Post-Conflict Reconstruction Project. Previously, she was a senior research fellow at the Centre for Defense Studies, King’s College London, and spent several years working for the United Nations and the European Union in Somalia and Kosovo. She is currently on the World Economic Forum's Global Agenda Council on Fragile States and has direct experience in over two dozen conflict zones. Her areas of expertise include state collapse, military intervention and nation building; UN reform; root causes of terrorism, European counter-terrorist responses; and development.
