Editorial Support for New START Strengthens

The New START treaty has received strong support in editorial and opinion pages from newspapers across the country.  The New York Times said, "The Senate needs to pass New Start now."  The Washington Post said, "given where the discussion stands, ratification of START is something that could, and should, get done this year."

Support is broadening in states whose senators are important in the New START ratification debate.  The Tennessean wrote that Senators Bob Corker and Lamar Alexander should "ensure the United States and the world get a New START."  The Savannah Morning News said that Senator Johnny Isakson should listen to former Georgian Senator Sam Nunn's advice that treaty should be ratified "as early as feasible."  Maine's Kennebec Journal also came out in support of New START.

Ploughshares Fund grantees, including Georgia WAND, Physicians for Social Responsibility, The Two Futures Project, and ReThink Media have been instrumental in advancing support for New START in editorials, op-eds, and other media in key states during the Senate's consideration of the treaty.
