Frederick Barton’s work in the CSIS International Security Program and Post-Conflict Reconstruction Project is informed by 12 years of experience in Pakistan, Afghanistan and nearly 30 other global hot spots.  He served as UN deputy high commissioner for refugees in Geneva and as the first director of the Office of Transition Initiatives at the U.S. Agency for International Development. He is currently on the World Economic Forum’s Global Agenda Council on Humanitarian Assistance. He was the chair of the Obama for President Subgroup on Post-Conflict Reconstruction and an expert adviser to the Iraq Study Group and the Task Force on the United Nations.  His research includes international security and post-conflict reconstruction, and his expertise includes bureaucratic reform, the UN and refugees.
