Ploughshares Fund Welcomes New Board Members: Joe Sestak and Terry Gamble Boyer

Ploughshares Fund is pleased to welcome two new members to its board of directors: Admiral Joe Sestak (Ret.) and Terry Gamble Boyer. Sestak and Gamble Boyer join a group of concerned former officials, philanthropists, academics and public figures including Michael Douglas, former Senator Chuck Hagel, Dr. Gloria Duffy, Dr. David Holloway and Reza Aslan who lead and advise Ploughshares Fund, a global security foundation, as the group works towards the peace and security of a world without nuclear weapons.

Admiral Sestak has served our country both in uniform and in Congress. He brings a wealth of national security experience to our board. Ms. Gamble Boyer is well known and highly regarded in corporate and political circles for her integrity and sophistication,” said Joe Cirincione, president of Ploughshares Fund.“We are fortunate to have two such talented individuals joining our board."

About Sestak

A retired three-star Admiral and former Congressman, Joe Sestak has significant expertise in national security issues. After serving in the Navy for 31 years, Sestak was the highest ranking military officer ever elected to Congress when he represented Pennsylvania's Seventh Congressional District from 2007-2010. He commanded an aircraft carrier battle group that conducted operations in Afghanistan and Iraq with 30 U.S. and allied ships and more than 15,000 sailors and 100 aircraft. Prior to that, Sestak served as President Clinton’s director for defense policy on the National Security Council and the first director of the Navy's anti-terrorism unit after 9/11.

About Gamble Boyer

Writer and philanthropist Terry Gamble Boyer is the author of two highly acclaimed novels, "The Water Dancers" and "Good Family".She has also served on the board of trustees of the Ayrshire Foundation, the Magic Theatre in San Francisco, Project Open Hand, the Little Traverse Conservancy, the University of Michigan English Advisory Board, and the San Francisco School where she chaired the board for three years. She is currently chairing the Board of Trustees of the Urban School of San Francisco. Gamble Boyer graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Michigan.
