Renewed U.S.-Iran talks hinge on 'mutual respect'

On a panel for the NewsHour’s Insider Forum, George Perkovich of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace discussed U.S.-Iran relations. Perkovich explained that, while difficult to “convey respect to a government that the U.S. fundamentally doesn't respect, […] the government is who you have to persuade to change its policies.” Iran will try to avoid stopping its nuclear program, he argues, but the Obama administration must make progress with Iran on the nuclear issue.
