Secrecy may have caused nuclear-sub collision

A collision between a British and a French nuclear submarine may have been the result of lack of communication between France and NATO nations. "The fact that the collision occurred at all indicates that the two allies need to talk more," says Hans Kristensen of the Ploughshares-funded Federation of American Scientists.  NATO sources report that France, the UK, and the U.S. withhold information about nuclear-armed submarines from allies, keeping the locations of their strategic deterrents secret.
