Arjun Makhijani

A recognized authority on energy issues and nuclear issues in particular, Dr. Makhijani is the author of Carbon-Free and Nuclear-Free: A Roadmap for U.S. Energy Policy (2007) and numerous other reports and books on energy and environmental issues, including topics such as radioactive waste storage and disposal, nuclear testing, disposition of fissile materials, energy efficiency and ozone depletion. He received the Jane Bagley Lehman Award in 2008 for excellence in public advocacy. In 2007, he was elected a Fellow of the American Physical Society; and in 2006 was recognized as a Ploughshares Hero for his work to educate grassroots advocates in the science of nuclear weapons. He earned his Ph.D. from the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences at the University of California, Berkeley, specializing in nuclear fusion.
